Bogus statement in the default wpa_supplicant.conf file
The default configuration file shipped with the `wpa_supplicant` package (`/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf`) contains a non-commented, bogus statement, in respect to the rest of the file (i.e. the statement isn’t necessarily bogus when desired, but it is by default):
1507
1508 # Example config file that will only scan on channel 36.
1509 freq_list=5180
1510 #network={
1511 # key_mgmt=NONE
1512 #}
1513
The effect of this bug is that by default (and even if you use wpa_passphrase to append your configuration to the file), wpa only selects APs on the channel 36, effectively preventing wpa to work in most cases.
